For those of you who do not know, Cyclone Yasi is expected to hit Queensland in a matter of hours.  It’s unbearable to consider that a state, having just endured catastrophic floods, is about to be brought under by the worst storm to ever hit Australia.  It is a Category Five storm, and its power may even rival that of Hurricane Katrina.  It is so large that it would cover the United States, most of Asia and large parts of Europe.

It’s awful and a little terrifying, especially knowing how close it is.  If you want to help, you can still donate to the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal.

Update: It looks like it’s been downgraded to a Category One storm!  Which is a massive relief.  Damage has been dealt so far, but hopefully it will be significantly more manageable. So far no lives have been lost.
